Nice old taxi (London?) -- can anyone tell us how old it is? The registration plate is Maryland Historic, which requires a vehicle to be at least 20 years old and not used in regular daily transportation. I figure the owner lives on the Maryland side of the DC city limit.
Hi Mike, These taxis were made by Austin of England for London service from 1948 until 1958/9. This looks like a later one (Post 1950) as it has Bunny ear turn indicators on the roof.
Thanks, Stephen. I love London cabs, especially the older ones. Probably the most practical cab design ever invented, and -- from all I've read -- indestructible. We've essentially given up on purpose-built cabs here in the States -- in most cities now, they're secondhand Ford Crown Victoria police cars. Huge, cheap (bought at police auctions) gas guzzlers.
